2.5h after sunrise is most optimal Mafate Helicopter is based in Saint Pierre Pierrefonds Airport. The pilot is skilled, one of the best I have had. I tend to get motion sickness after 30 min in a helicopter but i am fine for a 55 min ride. He is also kind enough to explain sites in English after French. He also did multiple flyovers at special sites like Trou de Fer, which i think can be difficult or impossible for an aircraft like ULM due to the narrow quarters.Almost all helicopter rides in Reunion Island are in the morning for best visibility. However there is something called too early as well. Due to the cirque, shadows and glares are common. I think 2.5h after sunrise is the best to reduce shadows and glare, while still early enough to prevent cloud covers. Most if not all heli companies only fly if there are minimum of 5-6 pax confirmed. So make sure you book on a confirmed departure. Helicopter flight Reunion Island On holiday in Reunion Island we met the team of Mafate Helicopters and fell in love on Valentine's Day for a flight on the volcano of the Fournaise , the village of Mafate and on the lagoon. Company to recommend without reservation. Many thanks to this company for its seriousness and to our excellent pilot Benoit who made us live magical moments, without any turbulence. He adapted his flight plan to the weather conditions as they were different depending on the geographical location. Indeed, the grand tour passes through the 3 circuses where the time changes very quickly. We had the chance to enter the Iron Hole between two showers, to discover the Takamaka waterfall inaccessible on foot at the time (closed trail), and the overflight of the Plain of Sands and Piton de la Fournaise completed all our hikes well. Amazing flight ! We booked the premium tour (55min) and we loved it ! Our pilote (Benoit) was very kind and professional and he kept sure we were doing okay the whole flight. Thanks Benoit ! Staff at the meeting was on point, very professional and thoughtful.Obviously the view was so beautiful and we really appreciated the fact that we could see all of La Réunion. Highly recommend this company and make sure to anticipate your flight when you come to Reunion cause, sometimes because of the weather condition, your flight might be delayed by a couple of days, so make sure to get on it :) !
